A good idea is a good idea: Ken Kiser has some nifty custom wallpapers on his website. So I figured I’d post the few presentable ones I made:
These will be collected on the Wallpapers page; you can get the full-sized versions there, too.
Personal use only, no redistribution – All rights reserved, yada yada yada. I’ll select a Creative Commons license for this stuff soon.
Sigh – I really got to practice and do more art stuff.

Yeah, I used to draw and stuff. Nowadays I just draw maps. It's pretty sad, I have a couple of pencil drawings from 16 years ago that make me wonder whether I could be good at it had I just kept doing it 16 years.
Oh, well.
As for the promotion, yeah, I can see that… For me, that's not really a motivation of course. I know I won't earn money with this stuff.

Imagery gets noticed. If and when my books are lucky enough to make it to the shelves. There will be a few people ready to show it some support. All gret things start small, and a few pieces of memorable imagery doesn't hurt.
There is absolutely NO expectation that these designs will get used in any official capacity. That sort of thing just doesn't happen. But as self-promotion, it's not too bad.
I like your "nuked" wallpaper.

Thanks.
The big difference though is, you are a writer, and I am not
There's not really money in world building. I mean, sure, if you do it for a company (for video games or whatever) it could be a paid job but I shall be realistic; that's not gonna happen for me. While being a paid writer is at a comparable "main stream" job…
